Cosmetic breast surgery is so popular today among women who feel that their breasts are too small and they feel the need to do something to increase their size and shape. However, even with the possibility of good results that will make a woman feel good about herself, there are times when you get to hear a few ‘horror stories’ when breast surgery goes wrong. The good news is that breast augmentation is usually a minor surgery that is done as an outpatient procedure but it is always good to be informed about any possible complications that could occur.
Breast enlargement risks
One thing that every woman undergoing cosmetic breast surgery must know is that fact that any surgical procedure, however minor carries with it some degree of risks since things could just go wrong. Surgeons may not give you 100% guarantee of what results are going to be even when they have done their best. There are a few cases where patients get dissatisfied with the results and have to undergo a repeat procedure.

Potential complications after breast augmentation surgery
There are several potential breast enhancement complications that your doctor cannot predict before the surgery but which can actually take place and they include:
Descent: There are women whose tissue is naturally not suitable for holding the implants and they will simply slide down their chests. This may cause the scar to progress upward causing it to look like it has a heavy bottom. Since not even a supportive bra can rectify this situation the remedy is usually doing another surgery known as a breast lift.
Easy detection: For some women it becomes obvious that they have undergone a breast procedure because the implant can actually appear crinkled and this becomes especially apparent when a woman undergoes any form of weigh loss.
Stretch marks: If you have stretch marks on any part of your body breast augmentation will automatically invite stretch marks on your breasts.
Areola and nipple shifts: Another almost obvious breast enhancement risk you must be aware of is the change in size, shape and color of the nipple and areola as well as a change in their positions which may sometimes not be very symmetrical.
Asymmetry: It is possible that some women naturally have breasts which are asymmetrical and for such a breast enhancement procedure will only make such a position too obvious.
Scars: Most plastic surgeons will do their best to advice you on how the scar is likely to look like but at best that will be a guess because changes usually take place. Some patients experience complications such as puckering, thickening, and hyper-pigmentation as well as keloid formation at the site of the scar.
Damage to nerves: There are women who experience some form of localized numbness or a tight pulling sensation while others go completely numb at the nipple. The breast will feel slightly different even though in many cases these feelings will go away after some duration of time.
